Why Shop with Heirloom Beauty?
"Your skin is designed to protect you from countless insults: from air pollution to murky lake water, from dirty gasoline-pump handles to staph. Skin cells provide a physical barrier, sort of like bricks and mortar, to keep the bad stuff out -- most of the time, says Francesca J. Fusco, M.D., assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. "The cells aren't as tightly packed as real bricks, though, which means things can squeeze by and penetrate." That's good news if you want, say, an anti aging wrinkle cream to wage war against your crow's feet or an anti-itch product to tackle that exercise-induced rash on your inner thighs. Bad news when strong chemicals meet sensitive or thin skin, cause an allergic reaction, or dangerously flood your bloodstream." Source: cnn.com/health

Is everything you sell certified organic?
Although we abide by a strict ingredient policy and certified organic ingredients are used in our products, we do also offer natural products and organic products that have not been certified by any certification body. This is because -
a) some of our wonderful blends are still in the process of being certified,
b) different certification bodies have different standards.
c) no federal or governmental body in any country monitors the 'standards' of what is organic or natural, only what is 'proven' toxic or not.
We believe that the best yardstick of a products' naturalness & pureness is its ingredient list and honest & thorough testing by producers and distributors/retailers.
Meaning of the common different terms to categorise organic and natural products:
1. Certified Organic: These products have been certified organic by a third party. This means that although the organic products many contain some synthetic ingredients, the certification body has concluded that the products is safe to use, and that the ingredients have been sourced from manufacturers that practice pesticide-free and sustainable farming. For more information on all the organic certification bodies used, go to Organic Certification
2. Non-certified Organic: This means that the supplier has an organic product that has not yet been certified organic.
These suppliers are using some organically sourced ingredients and if you look at the ingredient lists of the products, you will be able to tell which are organic by an asterix next to the product.
3. Certified Ingredients: These products have some certified organic ingredients but the products are not yet certified.
4. All Natural Ingredients: These products use only natural ingredients. Please note that we have included soaps in this category even though all soaps contain sodium hydroxide (lye.) The reason is that there is no sodium hydroxide left in the final product and it is also not possible to make soap without sodium hydroxide.
5. Part Natural: These products are predominantly natural but have some safe synthetic ingredients.
Are your products locally made?
In most instances of imported products, you will find that local alternatives are not yet available. Most of our products are hand made in Australia, South Africa, West Africa (black Soap) and USA. As we operate out of Singapore, Malaysia and in future Australia, we can only so far source for herbal/floral skincare and ingredients Australia, USA, Europe, Malaysia or Thailand. There are limited sources of reasonably priced natural products in Singapore. We always have always supported cottage industries and Fair Trade businesses where we can. Our special hand-blended products contain ingredients sourced from Fair Trade and cottage industries.
Are your products cruelty free?
We ensure all our suppliers verify that they do not test their products or the ingredients in their products on animals. Some of our suppliers however, have also attained formal accreditation to back up their policy on sourcing and producing cruelty free products.
Are your products vegan or halal?
All of our products are either vegan, halal-compliant or vegetarian, but please read the ingredients list to check if it contains any beeswax or bee propolis. Other than beeswax, we do not carry products with animal by-product, including lanolin, placenta, rooster comb HA or other animal by-products.
