Keep Skin Refreshed and Protected with Natural Herbal Extracts
About Our Witch Hazel (Hammamelis Virginiana)
We make our own witch hazel pure extract* from the actual dried organically grown Hammamelis plant leaves and barks. No perfume, parabens or artificial preservatives are added. We only add food preservative to prevent spoilage. We do not use bleach or whitening agents so the true color and smell of the plant extract is retained.
Important Note: Some vendors and pharmacies are selling distilled water blended with essential oils or perfumes plus colorants and alcohol as floral waters or as hydrosols/extracts . These are fakes and thus very cheap to buy, but they offer no benefits beyond being sweet smelling "cooling" water. It is always wise to ask vendors for details about the hydrosols (i.e. country of origin, ingredients, method of extraction and availability of samples) that they sell to ensure that what you are purchasing is a true floral or plant extract/distillate. You can use our floral and herbal waters with confidence knowing they are chemical and alcohol free.
Please note: Prices are not inclusive of shipping charge. Please email us at [email protected] to confirm your product choice/sizes and we will send you an invoice after confirming the postage price.

Witch Hazel Extract (alcohol & chemical free)
Witch hazel is produced from the leaves and bark of the shrub Hamamelis virginiana, which grows naturally from Nova Scotia west to Ontario, Canada, and south to Florida and Texas in the United States and parts of UK and Australia. This plant was widely used for medicinal purposes by native American Indians and now in western medicine. The plant does not produce enough essential oil to make production viable for EO production. The most versatile of extract/hydrolates, witch hazel is mainly used externally on sores, bruises, and swelling, which makes it an excellent toner and cleanser for acneic skin, pimples, bruises, dermatitis and small cuts. I personally blend it with herbal extracts and essential oils and use it as a toner and skin cleanser. At the age of 50+ my skin needs a toner that will calm, soothe and balance the skin prior to application of skin care products. So far it has worked very well for me. I also carry a small bottle when I travel and use it on flights, combined with Rose Hydrosol and pure essential oils, to calm, hydrate and cleanse my skin whenever I need it.
Our witch hazel is freshly extracted from the leaves and twigs of the Hammamelis plant in small batches. We do not whiten it or add alcohol. The main constituents of the extract include tannin, gallic acid, catechins, proanthocyanins, flavonoids (kaempferol, quercetin), essential oils (carvacrol, eugenol, hexenol), choline, and saponins.
We can add an essential oil to the extract if you don't like the herbal fragrance of the extract. Choice of EO : Lavender Spain or Sweet Orange.
Fake witch hazel sold in drug stores and pharmacies do not contain tannin and very little of the other beneficial components of the plant. Instead fake versions contain high levels of alcohol to preserve it and give the user that false feeling of "freshness." The alcohol also "kills" much of the effective components of the extract, thus rendering it ineffective in treating/controlling skin problems. In fact, the high alcohol content damages the skin further.
True witch hazel hydrosol is popular in skin care manufacturing. It is a strong anti-oxidant and astringent, which makes it very useful in fighting acne and open pores. It is often used as a natural remedy for psoriasis, eczema, aftershave applications, ingrown nails, to prevent excessive sweating of the face, cracked or blistered skin, for treating insect bites, poison ivy, and as a treatment for varicose veins and hemorrhoids. It is found in numerous over-the-counter hemorrhoid preparations. It is frequently used by women to reduce swelling and soothe wounds resulting from childbirth. A sitz bath or wash of cool water with 20% witch hazel helps to heal and disinfect post-natal tearing of the perineum, and ease hemorrhoid swelling.
